Born & bred in Sydney to Hungarian parents, Marta grew up hearing jazz – it was constantly on the radio station her mother listened to, as well as on all the old black & white movies she loved to watch as a child.

Marta started her career singing in covers bands on the Sydney music scene and later decided to pursue her love of jazz and spent some time studying jazz vocals.

After many years of performing as part of the Sydney Jazz scene, Marta decided it was time to expand her musical experiences and commenced a “global musical adventure” which started in December 2006.

The first stop was India where she spent 10 months. After completing 4 months at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi, she then moved south to Bangalore, where she performed regularily at the Ista Hotel, at venues such as Opus & Taika and appeared in the PubRockFest with Alwyn Fernandes from Karma 6, as the opening act for Amit Heri.

December 2007 saw Marta arrive in Xian, China where she performed at the brand new Shangri-La Hotel before Shanghai beckoned with its developing jazz scene. Living & performing in Shanghai has seen Marta perform regularily at the JZ Club, The Cotton Club, bars along the Bund & many other venues with top musicians from all around the world. Marta has also toured extensively through China, to cities such as Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Chengdu.

During this time in Shanghai, Marta was given the opportunity to appear in her own reality TV show for the International Channel Shanghai (ICS) called Shanghai Quest which films foreigners integrating into Chinese society; she has also appeared in numerous episodes of another ICS program called More Than Jazz discussing various jazz topics.

This past year in 2009, Marta has been touring the Middle East with her band & learning all about the Arabic culture.

Recently Marta embarked on the journey of writing her own original tunes, which is giving her another dimension to discover herself musically, and is looking forward to sharing it very soon.

With influences such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington & Louis Armstrong, what you will hear is a very unique voice & style that emulates no-one, but you know as soon as she sings the first note that the sound, tone & heart belongs to bygone era’s.

Most importantly, what Marta hopes you hear when you listen to

her sing is honesty…
